Well, for 8 years we said that we'd never roast coffee because we'd never get the quality that our farm-visiting roasters did...
then the summer of 08 happened.
Coffee, paper, petrol, milk... everything went up. Sales went down, way down. No one had any extra cash - we all know the story. SO! There was a very clean roaster for sale that we could pick up and deliver ourselves, and the debate began. We know that roasting is difficult, technical & often elusive. But so is espresso extraction. Then two of our best friends in coffee pointed us to a new green bean importer who specializes in buying the gems just for the little guys. The way we see it, is we can continue to offer the farm exclusives from Counter Culture, and roast the rest ourselves to reduce costs.
This way, we all win. Prices don't go up, quality stays up (and gets even fresher by roasting right in the lobby!), and we get to keep our current faves! Cheers! |
